The Story behind the Photo: Sunset over the Cowee Mountains

Sunset over the Cowee Mountains

This is my seventh mini blog post telling the stories behind the photos of Red Rock Photography. My goal is to share my passion of the Blue Ridge Mountains with my fans and followers through my art. I love these mountains and hope that you enjoy the stories behind the photos. If you did not receive my previous posts and want to read them, click here

The story behind the photo

Sunset over the Cowee Mountains
The Cowee Mountain Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway provides one of the best sunset views in any of the National Parks. A few years back USA Today held a survey asking its readers to vote on the best sunset location in all of our National Parks. The Cowee Mountains Overlook was barely beaten out by a lake in Minnesota that I have never heard of, nor could pronounce. I was not impressed with the photos in the survey of the lake, so I assume that the area surrounding that lake simply has more USA Today readers than Western North Carolina. I truly do not think that you can top this scene. The rows of mountains, the expansive view and no sign of civilization below make this one of my favorite locations to go for sunset. This was one of my first mountain panorama scenes using the stitching technique. This is a combination of over 20 photos left to right in two levels to capture the entire scene.
